Anchored Down in Anchor Town
Imagine my surprise when I stepped off the plane in Anchorage and was met by what can only be described as a veritable cacaphony of sound. Needless to say, I was left asking myself, "self, how did all these people know I was arriving today?" As usual my self just ignored me - I suspect because it didn't know the answer to the question. Anyhow, as I passed the crowd, waving and smiling at the cameras I realized that for some reason they were continuing to scream and photograph after I had passed them. Strange...so I turned around and took a picture of them as they greeted the Alaska (formerly Anchorage) Aces hockey team, who had just won their division championship.
I proceded to the city where I visited my old colleagues, Brett and Lida at Montgomery Watson Harza; formerly James M Montgomery then Montgomery Watson - where I worked when I first got out of college. After a quick visit I moved on to the Snow Goose (pub) where I met up with my childhood school friends, Benita (and hubby) and Roxanne (sorry, their agents would not allow photos without a significant fee).
One can't visit Anchorage in summer without ascending the heights above and taking in the views from Powerline Pass (at your own risk, of course). It gave me a chance to catch some fresh air with my brother, Robert and sister-in-law, Sveta (that's Svee-eta) and my nephew, Robic (Robert). Here's another picture of Sveta and Robic.
Oh, and of course there's the obligatory visit to the legendary Fly By Night Club in Spenard, home of Mr Whitekeys' zany Alaskan spoofage AND home of Spam nachos. Aren't they a lovely couple? They'd probably make a good looking kid...
