A Quick Trip
OK, okay, OKAY already! I get the message - yes, it's been a long while since I've updated the blog but in my defense I have a perfectly good reason; I'm lazy. Actually on top of this I've also been traveling a lot since the end of August and in most instances without reliable internet access. That's the beuty of the ability to reset the time on these entries so nobody will ever know that I wrote them in November instead of as they happened...D'oh! Anyway, let's recap what has happened:
For Labor Day weekend I did a quick return flight to Dubai to help Lori pack up our belongings and the kids. I left Arlington after work on the Tuesday prior to the holiday and arrived in Amsterdam with a six hour layover. I realized the last time I was in Amsterdam was 23 years ago so I figured I'd take the train into the city and see what had changed. It took some work but I finally managed to buy a ticket on the train...'course nothing is written in English and I'm better at the Romance languages but by faking my way through a translation of the signs I did manage to find my way downtown.
I seem to have misplaced the photos but suffice it to say the only difference I noticed in Amsterdam over the decades has been a significant upgrade of the "red light district" to a "blue light district" - it's gone from sleaze to chic. Oh and mum - Craig, Mike and I only saw the red light district then because we took a wrong turn out of the train station and got lost on the way to the youth hostel; that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
Now what did I do with those photos....
